The Baker Next Door’s Story: Neighbors Jenna and Brian started The Baker Next Door to share their passion for producing high quality, expertly crafted artisanal bread, pastries and coffee, and to provide a community-oriented, inviting space for friends to connect over good food, good coffee and a nice chat. We seek only team oriented people with 100% commitment to work as part of a team, but who are very comfortable working on their own when needed with little guidance to achieve the team’s objective: creating kick-ass products and treating customers and fellow team members with the highest degree of respect and consideration to provide a gathering place that connects people through the sharing of thoughtfully crafted products. Lead Barista Overview: The Lead Barista will be responsible for developing our coffee program. Like the bakery side of the business, we would like our coffee program to highlight well sourced, local roasters with like minded business policies. The Lead Barista will also be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our coffee program, ensuring the highest standards of quality and customer service. This role requires a team-oriented individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for coffee. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of experience in a similar role and a strong understanding of coffee preparation techniques and equipment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES 2-3 years of experience as a barista, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role. Develop and implement a comprehensive coffee program,. Strong passion and knowledge of small scale, ethically sourced coffees. Train and mentor barista staff to ensure consistent quality and uphold TBND values. Provide exceptional customer service, addressing any issues or concerns promptly and professionally. Taking inventory and overseeing ordering and procurement of supplies, managing vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery and cost-effective purchasing. Monitor beverage quality and presentation, adhering to health and safety regulations to uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards- clean up! Team player, pitch in where needed Authorization to work in the United States Current California Food Handlers Certificate, or obtain within 30 days of hire Great sense of humor with a large dose of humility Curiosity to learn and understand new(er) things ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Ability to stand working for long periods of time, up to 8 hrs Ability to lift/push/manipulate items weighing a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis Ability to act with composure and grace in fast-paced environment Ability to work at least 40 hours per week, including weekends and some holidays Ability to display and follow ethical and professional standards set by The Baker Next Door Be well groomed and maintain proper hygiene Ability to communicate in basic English Act with integrity and honesty to promote the culture, values and mission of The Baker Next Door, i.e., create kick-ass products and treat customers and fellow team members with the highest degree of respect and consideration.
